I love this verse, what simple yet amazing imagery to show our walk with God, it seems so simple, yet it also says so much about how things should be. Christianity is not a retrospective, we aren’t all here to look back on the day we were saved and reminisce, I have heard a lot of people talk about how fervent they were when they were newly saved, how much they wanted to share what they had just gotten, its that amazing feeling that suddenly life has meaning, purpose and an eternal future, yet somewhere over the years lots of people seem to get into the treadmill of life, and they lose some of that initial zeal, their life as a Christian becomes the norm. This verse however shows that far from things petering out after a while, things are meant to get better and better, everyday on this journey God has more for us, more to show us, more to give us. Yes, we come across trials and tough times, but God is there through those too, and as we progress we should be faced with the ever-increasing abundance of what God has.
The amplified bible puts it like this:
“But the path of the [uncompromisingly] just and righteous is like the light of dawn, that shines more and more (brighter and clearer) until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day [to be prepared]”
So, the message is that if we refuse to compromise and go all out of God, then this life gets better and better until eventually, after this earthly life is over, we get to see and take part in the full strength and glory of the Lord God. What a beautiful thing, and how totally against the grain the world has set out as the norm, in this world it seems to be very much, enjoy your youth then settle and get on with the daily grind until you retire, then you sit somewhere and wait for the end, but in God’s Kingdom, following his way, it just gets better and better, God loves to pour out his love, to give of himself to his people.
‘Brighter and Clearer’ is the way it is phrased here in the Amplified, as we grow daily and move closer in our relationship with Christ, the ways he has for us and the things he desires for us become apparent, we get that clarity that comes with knowing what is important, with the security we find in out ever closer walk with him.
This verse really has spoken to me, as it seems to say so much about our walk with God, I hope that you can all read it, and be inspired too by the greatness of a God who wants things to literally just keep on getting brighter!
Until next time,
Pete…
