On May 23rd – 27th 2003, tens of thousands of students from across the world gathered together in a field in Sherman, Texas with the desire to lift high the King. Sacred Revolution is the music from that gathering, recorded live and reflecting the passionate desire of those present to lift up the name of Jesus.

The CD features the now familiar line-up of worship leaders for the Passion CD’s with The David Crowder Band, Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall, Candi Pearson, Christy Nockels, Steve Fee and Matt Redman, alongside a line-up of experienced and talented musicians dedicated to using their talents for the glory of God. As with any recording from Passion the quality, both musically and production-wise stands out from the opening strains of “O Praise Him” to the final beat of “Not to us”.

The opening track is “O Praise Him” from the David Crowder Band; it is a similar style to “Our Love is Loud” with a DJ and Violinist giving it the unique and original style that has made the band so successful, it is a catchy song that will no doubt be one of the ones that takes off in the church setting. “Holy is the Lord” is another stand out track, and probably my personal favourite from the album, with it’s good rhythm and memorable chorus “Holy is the Lord God Almighty, The earth is filled with His Glory, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, The earth is filled with His Glory, The earth is filled with His Glory.” Also featuring is the title track from Chris Tomlin’s 2002 album, “Not to Us” a song already popular amongst young people, it is up-tempo with a solid, driving drum-beat throughout, the lyrics are based on Psalm 115 v 1 “Not to us, oh Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your Love and Your Faithfulness.” Candi Pearson sings “Sing to the King” penned by Billy James Foote, It is a shame that Ms Pearson does not lead more songs on the Passion albums as both this and her leading of “One Pure and Holy Passion” on the OneDay live albums have been great songs.

A more curious addition to the album is the second track, “O Come let us adore him” I have mentioned in previous reviews the trend for modern worship albums to include a traditional hymn, now there have been some really good tracks, such as “The Wondrous Cross” by Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman. The track is sung with Passion by Matt Redman and is well-done, however I do like to see new material, and having a hymn that we have all heard on the album as the second track was a bit of a let down for me.

Overall I imagine that all fan’s of the Passion series will want this album, and it has some really good tracks that they will not want to miss out on, it does not however break any new ground musically, and is perhaps on the whole slightly slower and more reflective the previous passion recordings. That said, it is still a good record and should really please worship fans.
