For years Michael W Smith has put occasional instrumental tracks on his album, so it came as little surprise when his 15th Album Freedom was announced as an instrumental project, and this will be no disappointment to his huge fan base. The album delivers his usual excellence instrumentally as he has done vocally in the past. Smith is the Executive producer on the album as well as playing both the piano and the keyboard. It is a slow paced album which will suit those who have the ability just to sit back, rewind and chill out. It is very relaxing and the best tracks are undoubtedly the lovely “Letter to Sarah” and “The Call”. It is refreshing to see a Christian artist taking time out to relax and produce a musically excellent album, following his heart, without trying to concentrate on all of the latest trends. While stocks last there is a free CD with the album, a live acoustic set.
The acoustic set is a great 7 track EP of Smith’s best. Track 5 “The greatest hits Medley” is excellent and one of my personal favorites is “Secret ambition”. Recorded in Living Word Church Ohio (Lucky People!) this is a great album with the usual top notch talents helping smith make a typically fantastic production. Talents involved with the album include Chris Rodriguez. The album is a great listen and I would say is as good if not better than the Freedom album which it comes with. Although both are quality discs. |
