Mark Harris has been a vocalist in the popular band 4Him for fifteen years now, and with ‘The Line Between The Two’ he becomes the second member to release a solo project, and the album is what we are used to expecting from artists of this pedigree.
The album is a mature release, musically a natural progression from the 4Him sound, Mark is vocally strong, and the album is built around Mark’s personal life and experiences. Songs such as ‘Find myself in You’ tell of his salvation and the call to follow God, while ‘Find your wings’ is a moving piano led ballad written to his children, Matthew and Maddison, about fulfilling God’s will for their lives, and finding his desires for them. It is a beautifully written song, and really inspiring as he honestly describes how it feels to be a parent “I’ll have tears as you take off, but I’ll cheer as you fly.” ‘Until’, however is the lyrical high point for me, it describes putting absolute trust in God’s plan and timing for things, and how unfair it is to say that God is leading our lives, and then to go off and try to do it alone. The opening track ‘For the first time’ is worthy of a mention too; its upbeat and uplifting, doing what songs in the contemporary genre should by offering a strong, catchy tune and really setting the rest of the album off well.
If you are a fan of the 4Him sound, and they are a group that has a huge and devoted fanbase, then the Harris album is going to be a must buy, for the rest of us, it is a well produced record and a strong debut release from a good vocalist. It isn’t anything revolutionary musicaly, but it is following a proven sucesfull formula, easy on the ear and lyrically good, this should do nothing but further enhance the popularity of both Mark and the band.
