Jennifer Knapp first burst on to the scene a few years ago with her debut release entitled “Kansas”. It proved to be one of the quickest selling albums her record company had ever produced, shifting 430,000 copies! The most famous track was perhaps “Undo Me” which went on to be featured on WOW 1999 as one of the years best songs, With self written, alarmingly honest songs. Her mix of alternative folk music and amazing vocals won her many fans, and she spent a massive 80 weeks in the Billboards top 25 CCM, gaining herself endorsements from Tommy Hilfiger and Taylor Guitars in the process.
The follow up release “Lay it down” has been highly awaited in the music industry, Kansas would be a hard act to follow and many critics said that she was a one hit wonder. It was with high expectations that I got this CD and I was not let down on any accounts. After a few minutes investigating the weird, plastic-cardboard hybrid case which it arrived in I opened up my CD player and gave it a spin.
After only two or three minutes I was hooked, and after the CD had been once through I knew that it was destined for a long stay in my machine! The CD immediately captured me with the sounds of “A little more” featured on WOW 2000. Their was more great music to follow and I was soon on to a real Gem in the form of “Usher me Down” In my opinion one of the best contemporary songs I have heard of late, It tells of being ushered into God’s presence and finding the goodness which he has for you their. The album continues in fine form and another song that really stands out as a gem is “Diamond in the rough” Its strong vocals and beautiful guitars make it something special. All of the tracks were written by Ms. Knapp, except for the excellent “diamond in the rough” written by Shawn Colvin. Margaret Becker also helped with the vocals on Track 9 “When nothing satisfies you” This CD makes us really look forward to the next one, please come quickly.
