The Elms achieved much critical acclaim just over a year ago with the release of their infectious first album and now they are back to prove to the critics that they are no one-hit wonders. There new album is entitled "Truth, Soul, Rock and Roll" and, as the title suggests is straight-up American rock and roll of the variety currently invading the British pop-charts played by the likes of The Strokes.
The album kicks-off with "Speaking in Tongues" with its long guitar intro and upbeat rhythms it sets the scene for the album in style, with a driving chorus line keeping the tempo up throughout. The rock styling continues throughout the album, with tracks such as "All the while having fun" and "Burn and Shine" showing that this band really know how to pump out quality material. The album is packed with this style of up-beat high tempo rock, however that is not to say that this band does not no how to write anything else, "Smile at life again" is a slower, more emotional song, exhorting people to go forwards, while "Go Toward the Glow" with its jangly guitars shows the quality pf the song writing.
This album must surely establish The Elms at the top of their genre. The CD keeps up the standards right through, with the final tracks being of just as exceptional quality as the first, making it a great all round listen, so if you are into rock and roll, your collection will not be complete without The Elms. |
