DAVID GATE
REDEMPTION

Official Website

The second CD in the survivor emerge series comes from harrow based worship leader David Gate. David was originally featured on the infamous "Peoples album" and has since grown as a writer and a worship leader. He wrote the title track to the Soul Survivor 99 live album, Led to The lost and now offers his first solo recording. It seems to me that Survivor records have found a real talent in David who writes all 7 of the tracks on this EP with "King of Glory" being Co-written by Matt Redman. His vocals remind me strongly of Martin Smith on the early cutting edge material, It was indeed Martin Smith who performed David's "Draw me near" on The Peoples Album.

The CD kicks off with that very track, with a memorable guitar intro. And really powerful vocals from David, although at times in between the verses I feel the guitar was slightly to loud in comparison to the vocals, although the track is still undeniably a good song. "King of Glory" has a real strong beat to it and a memorable hook line, its an up tempo track which tells of the glory of Christ. It is a very up beat and happy worship song which will I have no doubt go down very well with the listeners. Be still is a more intimate worship song, with soft guitars and a very leisurely pace to it, telling of the need to be still and know that he is God, it is probably on of my favorite songs on the album, it is very well written and calm. "Praises" and "Lord Have Your Way" are also great tracks, the message is so clear and simple in these songs, there is no metaphor's, just a clear and good message, "Lord have your way" being a prayer for the glory of God in our lives, something vitally important for every Christian. "Led to the Lost" is probably the most widely known song on the album and is done great justice on this recording, with its message of a real purpose for our lives in Christ. The Final track is entitled "Redemption Hymn" and as the title suggests is quite a mellow track with smooth and keyboards throughout.

It is great to see another strong new worship leader emerging, with integrity and talent. I think that we will see a lot more of David in the future. If you are a fan of Matt Redman or the Cutting Edge then this is a must have album.
