Charlie Hall is one of the two worship leaders signed up to the new Six Steps Records label. He has wrote many worship songs to date and has appeared on both Passion and his own recordings, he even performed and wrote on track on the Vertical Music album Beyond Sight.
The album features 11 self-written worship songs, a couple of which you may have heard before but mostly new tracks. Charlie, a worship leader at Bridgeway Church, has been working with Louie Giglio on the Passion events for sometime and it is Louie who was the executive producer on this album. The album is called Porch and Altar because it represents the space between God and the people which we should wish to fill, or at least that is how I understand it. This album definitely seems to have more of an edge to it than the material which we hear from Passion, possibly because it is a studio album and has been mastered, engineered and mixed. The strongest song on the album would probably say is “Salvation” it has been performed at Passion and also by Matt Redman on the Soul Survivor “The Message” Album. It has a great beat to it and a stirring rhythm, it was also a highlight on “Passion-One Day Live”. The lyrics are a prayer for God to rock the earth with revival, and it reminds me of the kind of theme evident in the infamous “Did you feel the mountains tremble”. Another pulse-racing song is “King Of Glory” with its catchy chorus line and great guitar playing. On the acoustic side of things we have the intimate, “One thing” a cry out to God to get closer to him and have a relationship with him, it is a really positive and inspiring song as the message is such a strong one and one of major importance to us all. It tell show all of life comes down to knowing the Lord, its impossible to over stress the importance of this and it is great to see the message being put across in this song. “Make Strait” is the first song on the album, it is slightly slower tempo than the others and has a constant strong rhythm to it, its a very atmospheric song. |
