New on Gotee Records is a young woman with a positive outlook who draws from numerous musical influences to bring us this exciting début. Ayiesha is a singer songwriter with talent to spare and this really shows though in her strong, confident vocal style, backed up by well written material and the production qualities that have became synonymous with Gotee records. Ayiesha states that her aim is “To be able to put out a record with a sound that has a lot of different things for people to appreciate at one time” and she achieves this well with the dozen songs featuring here. Ayiesha moves comfortably between styles with ease, from the uplifting pop of Happy which would not be a miss in the pop charts, to the Jamaican hip hop stylings of 'Crazy' which sees her rapping it out like a female Sean Paul, and demonstrating the versatility which will surely make her a strong favourite for the next dove awards. There are also rockier tones to some of the tracks, notably the seriously funky 'Beauty', which is probably my favourite track on the record, with its well worked guitars and soaring vocals. I hear a lot of new artists who clearly have a lot of talent, however it's a cut-throat business and artists need to fulfil their promise on their début or they may never get to a sophomore release, Ayiesha not only fulfils her promise but raises the bar for the CCM genre, Female Artist of the Year? I certainly wouldn't bet against it.
